About

I have been interested in photography as a hobby from around the age of 10 when I was Lucky enough to become the proud owner of a very old (and rather tatty) Kodak box 12 frame film camera. Despite it's poor general condition, it was still able to take photographs and I was the proudest kid around. Of course, I was limited in the number of photo's I was able to take, firstly due to the price of the film and secondly the processing costs. But none the less, I was out and about with my "magnificent" camera as often as possible and was well and truly bitten by the photography bug at an early age.

I eventually managed to break in to the world of 35mm with a second hand (1959 model) 'Nikon F' and thought I had really arrived in the big time. Film was still a major expense but it was the processing that was the real stumbling block; and so I slowly built up a kit of Dark Room equipment, including a Patterson Enlarger. My long suffering parents allowed me to turn the family bathroom in to a make shift Dark Room: and thus I began developing and printing my own "Black and White" films. I continued with this until the early 80's when I decided to move on to colour film. Obviously the D+P process was far more complicated and the equipment well beyond my reach, and so I sold the Dark Room equipment and my trustee Nikon F; and purchased my very first "brand new" camera, a Nikon F100 SLR. The results were stunning and the picture quality simply amazing. Of course it was still me pushing the buttons and my skills hadn't dramatically improved over night. It was just that this was a much superior camera to anything I had ever experienced before. I continued with this model for many years as my capabilities continued to grow.

In the late 1980's the photography world was taken by storm with the advent of Digital cameras (although Kodak had produced a digital prototype as far back as 1975); and digital photography was most definitely here to stay. I however continued with film until well in to the 90's before I eventually got my first digital, a Nikon D70s SLR. Again the transformation was incredible. The cost of film and printing was a thing of the past and the ever developing manipulation software being made available meant faultless finished results almost every time.

You will have no doubt noticed by now, that I am a devotee of Nikon and for no other reason than the fact that I have always used Nikon, so it's simply a personal preference. I have always found them to be very user friendly and to give excellent results, even under the harshest of conditions. I now use a Nikon D300s, Nikon D700 and Nikon D2Xs; with a variety of Nikkor lenses, including the famed Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S; and lighting supplied by means of the Nikon SB800 and SB900(x2) i.TTL "Nikon Creative Lighting System", plus the Sigma Macro Ring Flash, light units.

Happy photography
